Successful Completion of Our University's First Batch of Undergraduate Education Reform Projects on Schedule
In 2019, our university was selected as one of the first vocational undergraduate education pilot institutions in China. In 2020, the university applied for and was granted approval for two major projects in undergraduate education and teaching reform research in Fujian province. After two years of research and practical application, both project teams successfully completed their research tasks and submitted the necessary materials for the final assessment. Recently, the Office of the Leading Group for Education Science Planning in Fujian Province announced the final assessment results, confirming that both of our university's major projects had been successfully completed.
Under the guidance of the university leadership and with the collective efforts of the project team, the major project "Construction of the Integrated Curriculum and Textbook System for Artificial Intelligence Major," led by Associate Professor Guo Feifei, Director of the Fujian Provincial Applied Technology Engineering Center for Intelligent Manufacturing at our university, has yielded fruitful outcomes in educational reform.
The university has established a physical secondary college named "Guoke Digital Industry School" with Fujian Guoke Information Technology Co., Ltd. The company has invested in building a practical teaching base, and both the university and the enterprise have formed a "double-teacher" teaching team. They have also established a project delivery team comprising "teacher mentors +plus enterprise engineers +plus student teams" and have participated in horizontal scientific research projects with a total value of 6.322 million RMB.
Two core members of the project team were commissioned by the National Professional Standards Committee to serve as deputy leaders of the software engineering technology and computer application engineering professional standards development groups. They completed the development of national professional construction standards, created talent training plans for three artificial intelligence-related majors suitable for vocational undergraduate education accordingly. They also completed the development of three textbooks and obtained approval for the "Artificial Intelligence Enterprise Project Practice" as an online premium course in Fujian Province.
We have constructed a digital teaching resource library for the ICT professional group, which has greatly facilitated the development of the artificial intelligence course curriculum. The major project, "Exploration of Educational Resource Operation in Co-creation Spaces Based on Professional Studios," was led by Associate Researcher Ren Lijuan, the head of our Fujian Provincial Co-creation Space. The project team conducted interdisciplinary research utilizing knowledge from education, management, economics, and engineering in the theoretical study. Based on a holistic view, they constructed an evaluation model of factors influencing the development of university co-creation spaces and identified the deep-seated factors and path relationships that affect them. The team published five research papers, including one in English, and related summary materials have been featured in mainstream media such as the Guangming Daily and Study Times.
In terms of reform and exploration, the project team based on the school's educational orientation leveraged the flexibility of the institutional mechanism and nurtured a management and operation team that focuses on science and technology services. They created a co-working "physical space" that meets the current development trend and established a dual creation resource operation model with teacher and student studios as the main body. This not only effectively promotes the realization of the four major missions of talent cultivation, technological research and development, social services, and cultural heritage, but also keenly grasps the important trend of national emphasis on science and technology innovation leading the development of co-creation. The project results have been selected as typical cases in multiple fields, invited to share or included in reports, and won the second prize in Fujian Province Teaching Achievement Award.
The successful completion of the major education and teaching reform project in Fujian Province provides the impetus for our university to continue exploring education reform. As the first and only vocational undergraduate university in Fujian Province, we have a greater responsibility to achieve theoretical research and practical exploration results in vocational undergraduate education. In the future, the university will continue to focus on vocational undergraduate education and cultivate education reform projects in accordance with the guidance of the Fujian Provincial Department of Education, accumulating research results for the application of teaching achievement awards.
